The cold brushed my cheeks, I tossed and turned but it was no use. Light bled as I opened my eyes, my family's voices echo through the hall. Stammering to my feet, I look outside of my frosted window and a white-blanket world; the snow's finally come. "Good morning", my mother says as she kisses my head, placing something atop the bed. Pajamas. Ah, it's Christmas. Every year, my family wears "Christmas pajamas," a long-standing tradition from before I was born. I hurriedly slip them on, Snoopy's visage adorns my chest. My footsteps prod the wooden stairs as all begins to hush. I creep around the corner to a "Merry Christmas!" eruption. Their faces giddy, approaching me for hugs. I embrace each tightly one-by-one as the fireplace crackles, the warmth burrows my bones. "Presents???" my cousin asks unsubtly, his cheeks red with excitement. Names are called one by one as I sit, the tension in the air is palpable. Uncle Santa calls for me, handing me a bow-wrapped box. I glance down, my mother stroking my hair as I read the tag: "Love, Mom." In this moment, everyone is happy. Smiling, opening gifts with hurried hands, telling stories of their lives. I take in everything: the voices, the warmth, the excitement, the bonds, the love. It's all I've ever wanted.
